Why should you buy local this Holiday Season?  Shop Small on Small Business Saturday.

There has been increased awareness about the personal, community, and economic benefits of buying local in recent years. Not only are you supporting your neighbors and community members directly, but they in turn then are more likely to buy local further growing the community. This also reduces the environmental impact by lowering transportation necessity. You're creating good jobs, helping to keep your community unique by encouraging one of a kind businesses to open up, inviting people to remain a part of your community for many years and also putting your taxes to good use.

Small Business Saturday, #ShopSmall or #SmallBusinessSaturday, always happens the Saturday after Thanksgiving, this year falling on the 28th.  Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 as a way to encourage shoppers to patronize businesses that are small and local.  This was in counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores.  Started almost surprisingly by American Express, it wasn't until the next year in 2011 that the day became official with governors, mayors, senators and even President Obama voicing support for Small Business Saturday.
